Biking Across Borders

Kings of spandex ready to ride!

Last Saturday, my svelte and suave friend Bart took me on ‘an easy little bike ride’ … that turned out to be 52 kms across Switzerland, Germany and France. I’m still recovering 4 days later.

The route

I am NOT a bike rider, however 300 francs in spandex and one borrowed bike later and we were off! First stop the was to buy pain au chocolat in France for the kids (which may or may not have sat in a warm backpack for the 2 1/2 hours while we were riding). For whatever reason, Jacob liked the Swiss pastries better.

Going into France near Novartis

When I could bring my head up to breathe, the scenery in the black forest and along the Rhine was stunning and it was pretty cool to cross into three countries on the ride.

On the Three Countries Bridge (very apropos)

I’m looking forward to many more rides. Bart is doing 100 km tomorrow (I may walk a bit). The Swiss are certainly into their riding and I can see how it’s addictive. More spandex!

  1. I am very impressed with the Kings of Spandex and this adventure in fitness and tourism. Dad is also a biker now, 40-60k regularly, he would love to join you. I’ll watch from the sidelines and eat the melty pain chocolate 🙂 xo

  2. While I’m truly impressed with your multi-country escapade, I’m mostly grateful that the photo collection did not include the bottom half of the Kings of Spandex. 😜
