First, Our Goodbyes

We will miss you California. And we will worry about you. We wish our spectactularly beautiful home state a year with limited fire and early rains. We will miss the smell of eucalyptus, hummingbirds and San Francisco’s noisy parrots, bright pink and purple bougainvillea, and the ferociously cold Pacific Ocean. May the California Dream continue!

We spent our last weeks in San Francisco maximizing time with friends and family. Saying goodbye to our Santa Cruz family — Sarah, Steve, Logan and Orion — was particularly tough. We have been each other’s you-can-call-at-2 am-and-I’ll-be-there people for twelve years in California. We arrived with toddlers, added two babies and shared many holidays, trips and beach days.

From Xander: I am leaving San Francisco in less then 12 hours. There are lots of things I will miss here, but also lots of things I am looking forward to. I spent my last week here playing basketball with my friends. My friends are the thing that I will miss most about SF. Though I am looking forward to meeting new friends in Basel. I will miss SF for probably the whole year, but I know that I will have lots of fun in Basel.

From Jacob:

Hello Civilians, Jacob and company are leaving for Switzerland today. I’m very excited to go but I will miss my friends. I’m excited for the food me and the peoples will eat, like pasta in Italy and croissants in France. The places me and the peoples will go and the army knives we will receive. I just hung out with some of my friends and I will miss them a lot. I want a puppy. – Jacob

  3. Oh my goodness!! Such HUGE things for all of you on the horizon. So pleased to see that you spent quality time with your left coasters before your travels. I cannot WAIT to see what this adventure brings. So much love from Auntie Rach (whose head is always floating above like a sun… 😂)

  4. Leah,

Your KP ‘family’ has your back! Let us know whatever we can do to make your work life easier (sadly we are powerless when it comes to time zones).

We all hope you Matt, Zander, and Jacob have a year full of amazing adventures – we will live vicariously!
